Wilson Groen
Mr. Groen is a licensed Professional Engineer with over 45 years of successful domestic and international oil and gas exploration experience. He joined Shell Oil Company in 1969 after receiving his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University. At Shell, he worked projects in the Michigan and Rocky Mountain Basins. In the Rocky Mountain District he helped develop seismic stratigraphic interpretation techniques in clastic and carbonate plays. Since leaving Shell, he has worked with and co-founded a number of independent oil and gas companies. In 1973, he joined Trend Exploration on their highly successful project in Irian Jaya, Indonesia. Upon returning to the US, he joined the consulting firm PEXCON with projects for Amoco, USGS and a number of independent oil and gas companies. In 1977, he joined McAdams, Roux, O’Connor Associates. There he worked projects in the Paradox, Powder River and DJ basins. He was Chief Geophysicist when he left MRO to co-found Petrostrat Exploration, an oil and gas exploration partnership focused on exploration prospect development in the Rocky Mountain and Mid Continent basins. He joined Chuska Energy in 1988 as Chief Geophysicist working in the Paradox Basin. The Chuska project resulted in 1400 miles of seismic being recorded and 50 exploration wells being drilled in less than 3 years. Cumulative production to date from these wells has exceeded 20 million barrels. In 1993, Harken Energy acquired Chuska. Groen continued with various Harken subsidiaries as VP of Exploration. The principal focus of exploration activities was in South and Central America with a number of successful exploration wells in Colombia. In 2003, he joined Navajo Nation Oil and Gas Company as CEO and President. He led the company from being a small convenience store oriented company to becoming the Navajo Nation’s most significant business asset by a series of acquisitions and exploration projects. The company’s net production grew from 200 BOPD to over 3,700 BOPD at the end of 2012. Since late 2012, he has been focused on exploration prospect development in the Rocky Mountain and Mid Continent basins.
