John M. Warn received his B.A. degree from DePauw University, where he was a Rector Scholar, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Geology from the University of Cincinnati. Warn has over 35 years of petroleum industry experience, having worked as both geologist and geophysicist for Shell Oil Company (1974-79), Jordan Oil and Gas Company (1979-1987), EOG Resources (1987-2001), Tom Brown Inc. (2002-2004), Exploration Earth Co. (2004-2006) and Stephens Energy Company (2006-2009) prior to joining Thomasson Partner Associates in 2009. Individually and as part of exploration teams Warn has discovered over 395 BCFE of oil and gas reserves in various basins in the Rocky Mountains, California, Oklahoma and Illinois. He initiated and spearheaded the implementation of two fee mineral acquisition/divestiture business ventures that added over 400 BCF of reserves at an initial gross cost of $13MM (a finding cost of $0.04/mcf and an all-in cost of $0.72/mcf). He has supervised the acquisition of over 600 square miles of 3-D seismic data (five 3-D’s) and the processing of over 900 square miles of 3-D seismic data (eight 3-D’s). He has interpreted over 2000 miles of 3-D seismic data on 27 separate 3-D’s across the United States.
Warn’s particular area of expertise is developing new hydrocarbon plays and prospects in subtle stratigraphic traps by integrating geology and geophysics in innovative ways. He has been involved with Daniel R. Cook, Chief Scientific Officer, Seismic Insight Inc., in transferring cutting edge technology developed in the study of brain waves in drug research to processing and interpretation of seismic waves in exploration for hydrocarbon accumulations (see Cook and Warn, 2005, North American Oil and Gas Reporter, February 2005, pages 113-117).
Warn is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists, the Denver Geophysical Society and The Society of Exploration Geophysicists. He has been active in the Denver oil and gas community since 1986, and he is today widely known and respected. |
