Dr. Moore received a B.S. in Geological Engineering from Colorado School of Mines and then received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Geology from Texas A&M. Dr. Moore was with Cities Service Oil and Gas for three years starting in 1971 and worked all of the major basins within the Rocky Mountains. He managed General Crude's office in Denver for four years starting in 1974, during which time the company made major stratigraphic and structural plays, mainly in the Powder River Basin. Since 1977 he has been a consultant in Denver and during 1977 - 1979, taught at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado. He has published extensively on various aspects of the Powder River Basin, including the nature of the Minnelusa-Opeche Contact and the use of seismic in the Powder River Basin. He was the recipient of the Best Paper Award in The Mountain Geologist in 1983, and the Best Paper Award for the Wyoming Geological Society in 1985.
Dr. Moore has discovered oil in Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, South Dakota, the Texas Gulf Coast and Wyoming. His most significant discovery was Hartzog Draw, a 150 million barrel Cretaceous Shannon oil field in the Powder River Basin, found by Dr. Moore while working with Cities Services Oil Co. Dr. Moore was the lead geologist for an industry drilling fund in the 1980's which resulted in 8 discoveries out of 15 wells in which the fund participated. In addition, Dr. Moore developed several horizontal drilling plays including the Bakken Shale of North Dakota and the Niobrara of southeastern Wyoming, both of which are in the active stages of development. He currently is directing plays in the Appalachians, Mid Continent, Northern and Southern Rocky Mountains. |
