jay s. leaver

Mr. Leaver serves as an associate at Thomasson Partner Associates, responsible for Project Management of a number of TPA projects.

Since October 2009, Mr. Leaver has split his time between TPA and Sun River Energy, Inc., where he serves as President.  Sun River is a publicly traded oil and gas exploration and development company that is a strategic ally of TPA.  Please see for more details.

Mr. Leaver received his B.S. degree in Geological Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in 1986.  While working as a geologist for an aggressive, small exploration company, Mr. Leaver helped develop projects in the Sedgewick, Powder River, Sacramento, Illinois, Appalachian, and Anadarko basins.  His work included mapping, economic analyses and geophysical modeling.  He later worked for a small mining company, where he was responsible for maintaining drillhole databases and assisting in the development of geological models for precious metal deposits.  He is working for TPA on prospect development in the Rocky Mountain region, and in the Appalachian, Michigan, and Illinois Basins.

Mr. Leaver has incorporated gravity, magnetics, geochemical, and surface linear data into various TPA projects, using subsurface data and available 2D and 3D seismic data as “ground truth.”  This synthesis of different data types has often yielded insight into the mechanisms of hydrocarbon entrapment in a play area.  His work in multiple disciplines led to his promotion to Vice President – Geoscience in 2006.

In early 2008, Mr. Leaver was promoted to Executive Vice President.  Under Mr. Leaver’s guidance, TPA has matured a set of choice oil and gas projects: total project sales in 2009 were equal to the entirety of 2008, despite a substantial drop in commodity prices during this period.

Mr. Leaver is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists.  In 2009, he was elected Secretary of the local AAPG Section, the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists.  He also serves on the Advisory Board for Sun River Energy Inc.
